Naphthenic Base Oil Grade Selector — V2 to V1000
Sanyang naphthenic base oils are selected primarily by viscosity grade (V2 to V1000) and pour point. Lighter grades offer extreme low-temperature fluidity; heavier grades provide higher viscosity for process and rubber applications. The selector below maps each grade to its viscosity, pour point, and typical use.
| Grade | Viscosity @ 40°C (mm²/s) | Pour point (°C) | Typical applications |
|---|---|---|---|
| V2 | 1.465 | < -60 | Solvents, light process fluids, diluents |
| V4 | 3.27 | < -60 | Metalworking fluids, light process oils |
| V7 | 6.62 | -53 | Transformer/electrical insulating oils |
| V9 | 8.983 | -48 | Insulating oils, refrigeration oils |
| V22 | 22.32 | < -30 | Rubber processing, adhesives, inks |
| V34 | 32.90 | < -35 | Rubber and polymer processing |
| V36 | 32.66 | < -50 | Low-temp rubber and process oils |
| V100 | 92.3 | -22 | Rubber extender oils, greases |
| V160 | 152.2 | -18 | Heavy process oils, greases |
| V300 | 277.6 | -15 | Heavy-duty rubber and process oils |
| V1000 | 1014 | -4 | High-viscosity process and tackifier oils |
Method: viscosity ASTM D445, pour point ASTM D97. Lighter grades (V2–V2(II)) also available — KV40 1.465–1.796, pour point below -60°C.
Selection FAQ
Which naphthenic grade is used for transformer oil?+
Grades V7 (KV40 6.62 mm²/s, pour -53°C) and V9 (KV40 8.983 mm²/s, pour -48°C) are typically used for transformer and electrical insulating oils, where low pour point and good dielectric performance are required.
Which Sanyang naphthenic oil has the lowest pour point?+
Grades V2 and V4 both have pour points below -60°C — the lowest in the range. V2(II) can reach below -70°C. These ultra-light grades suit specialty low-temperature process fluids, diluents, and refrigeration oils.
Which naphthenic grade is best for rubber processing?+
For rubber extender and process oil applications, V100 (KV40 92.3 mm²/s) and V160 (KV40 152.2 mm²/s) are the standard choices. V300 and V1000 are used for heavy rubber compounding and tackifier applications.
What is the heaviest naphthenic grade available?+
V1000 is the heaviest grade in the Sanyang naphthenic series, with kinematic viscosity of 1014 mm²/s at 40°C and pour point of -4°C. It is used for high-viscosity process oils, tackifier blends, and heavy rubber compounding.
Which naphthenic grade works for printing inks and adhesives?+
Grade V22 (KV40 22.32 mm²/s, pour below -30°C) is commonly specified for printing inks, adhesives, and rubber processing where moderate viscosity and good solvency are required.
How do I choose a naphthenic grade?+
Select primarily by target viscosity at 40°C and required minimum pour point. Lighter grades (V2–V9) for low-temperature and electrical applications; mid grades (V22–V36) for inks, adhesives, and metalworking; heavier grades (V100–V1000) for rubber, grease, and process oil applications.

Frequently Asked Questions
What are naphthenic base oils used for?
Naphthenic base oils are used in transformer oils, rubber processing, adhesives, printing inks, metalworking fluids, greases, refrigeration oils, and specialty process oils — typically where low pour point and high solvency are required.
Why choose naphthenic over paraffinic base oils?
Naphthenic oils offer significantly lower pour points and higher solvency at the same viscosity, making them preferable for transformer oils, rubber/elastomer processing, and ink/adhesive formulations.
What grades are available?
The Sanyang series includes V2, V4, V7, V9, V22, V34, V36, V100, V160, V300 and V1000 — kinematic viscosity at 40°C ranging from 1.465 to 1014 mm²/s.
What packaging options are available?
ISO tank, flexitank, 200L drums, 1000L IBC and bulk vessel — depending on grade, order quantity and destination.
Can procurement teams request technical documentation?
